I finally made some money for a bass and amp. What can I get with $600? I plan on playing mostly jazz and funk. Also, I plan on using my electric guitar on it too since I don't own a guitar amp.

look at the accoustic bass amps B100 1x15 combo ($250 at musiciansfriend)and a Squier VM jaguar bass with the P/J setup.

You can get a wide range of sounds out of that set-up.

Check out craigslist, there's plenty of good used gear in western WA if you're willing to drive up north a little bit.

How far will this set up take me? Would I need to upgrade later if I start doing small gigs? Also, my budget got reduced to $500, but that shouldn't change much.
