i have H-H configuration right now. my question is can i install a single coil on either of the slot? if so is there any draw backs in doing so?.. mine is a full body no pickguard guitar. thanks.

Other than appearance (as in you'll be left with half an open pickup slot), I can't think of any problems. You could always coil-tap the humbucker, which means you split it into two single coils, often using a push-pull control (sorry if I just massively patronised you!).

You can buy hum-cancelling single coils, either the Fender N3 or any Kinmans are apparently be the best. Or there are humbuckers in single coil sized packages, but then I guess that's not really what you're looking for seeing as you're getting rid of the full-size ones!!
