Try the classic series of strats, they have vintage spec pickups etc and are actually pretty dam good. There's a 60's and a 50's one I think.

Can't go wrong with a Strat but wait till you get it and play it before you decide. There is no real answer to your question because pickups, at least in my opinion, only account for about a third of the guitar's tone. This is how I'd rate the elements of guitar tone in order of influence:

Pickup location
Pickups
Type of wood
Size of the body/neck
Electronics (pots and cap values mainly)
Gauge of strings
Nut & bridge

And thats just the guitar, the amp is a wholenother ball game.

I'll definitely look into those, but I fear that's a bit outta my price range =[

Was only looking to spend about 600 on the guitar and pups... So I probably wont end up getting a USA strat..

Ah but the classic series are mexican built and are cheaper than the usa ones so check out prices first.
