The part that goes from 3:50 to 5:33
What kind of jazz is it and what are some artists that play in that style?

I tried asking this in the jazz section of Yahoo!Answers and got responses like saying that it's an -unsuccessful(however that's not the point)- attempt of soul-jazz but I don't hear it.

Anyone have any ideas?

you can hear this style with alot of jim halls work...check out jim hall & ron carter...its a minor based progression ...

also check king crimson (robert fripp) and some of frank zappas work ... using jazz in the midst of chaos...creates nice contrast .. but gets boring after a bit..the chaos part that is..
