I've recently been experimenting with playing on a clean channel but only tapping (Check out songs like The Levitated by Scale the Summit or A Day at the Beach by Joe Satriani to get what I'm talking about). I've got a song kind of going, sort of, but my only problem is getting the taps to vocalize properly, they sound too quiet and kind of whiny (the note sounds too high for the fret I'm playing, I play the 12th fret on the first string and it sounds five frets too high). I don't have any problem tapping on a dsitorted channel, though. Is there a way to get them to sound better? Like settings on my amp (Peavey Vypyr 15), or something? I've tried tapping as hard as I could but still can't get it to sound right.
Focus on your right hand technique more than the amp settings. A surprising amount of the tone quality in tapping comes from how well your technique is.
