So there was this Vh1 Classic Show about the evolution of Heavy Metal, (which, due to my procrastination, is now over [FAIL TS]. But I really liked it, and wondered if other people had seen it and what they thought

and whether I should bother to wattch the Prog Episode...

But anyway.

'' Sorry, we're not able to offer this video to users in you region. ''

It's terrible and uninformative.

Most metal specials and documentaries are made for metal "tourists"

**** YOU YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MUSIC/SHREDDING/TAPPING/ARRRRGEEGEGEGE!

Just kidding.

I feel like VH1 had a series a few years ago that was the "History of Heavy Metal". It was very interesting, this looks like it might be longer than that though. I guess I have something to do tonight.

The series should really be called "Sam Dunn Drops The Ball."
There's no such thing; there never was. Where I am going you cannot follow me now.

I like the stuff Sam Dunn does, but you could tell he was forced by the publisher to focus on older stuff (hence it being on VH1 classic.) Which is why he had to cover grunge, and ended up interviewing Creed and the dude from Nickleback on the particular episode. The most extreme band they talk about is Meshuggah in the prog episode (which was probably the most informative one of them all, at least for me).

If he wasn't restricted by the station, I could have seen the series being much longer and more informative than it was.

This.

Like when V1 says that the first instance of Heavy metal was the song lyric "heavy metal thunder",when that referred to a motorcycle. Like i think there is a character in a book called the heavy metal kid.

I only just watched the first episode, but I dunno, I kinda like it I'm sure if VH1 Classic wasn't running the show, it'd probably be a lot more in depth with less mainstream acts. But hey, whatever gets metal out there, I suppose.

Did they seriously interview Creed and Nickelback for a metal documentary? The only way I could see that being relevant if they were to try to enact complex gay sex acts that Rob Halford pioneered, which had a massive influence on their music, and the way they walk.

(Obviously no offense meant to Halford)

You, good sir, have not gone over to your friends house after a hard night of drinking to find 2 dudes passed out in the same room both holding their own flaccid cocks in hand, passed out, with porn on the tv.

The guy was questioning whether Grunge had an influence on metal, and he mentioned the "fall" of Grunge, then mentioned the rise of Post-Grunge. You can't really talk about Post-Grunge and not mention Creed and Nickelback.

I suppose that's true. I just can't think of two bands in the world that I hate more.

I'm watching the progressive metal episode right now. It's decent, I guess.

Makes sense

I understand Rush had a big influence on prog, but no matter what they talked about it led back to Rush and came back to Geddy talking.

It just got a little old to me. Sadly, they hardly scratched the surface of prog too.. Especially after the 90's. They pretty much primarily stuck to guys who have been around since then. Mastodon are an exception, sort of..

I've been watching it on Sky Arts 1, pretty interesting stuff, especially all the old footage such as Ted Nugent playing with The Amboy Dukes and footage of MC5 kicking ass.
Classic stuff.

Yes Yes YES! That was a class A metal documentary, not for the last reason because it was made by a metalhead himself and not some TV station looking for viewer ratings.
