I got this in a trade today. I traded for a 1977 Ovation Balladeer Deluxe that i fell out of love with in a hurry. In the guys reply he told me he had a P90 Casino for trade. I agreed almost right away, thinking i'd be getting this: http://www.long-mcquade.com/products/7532/Guitars/Hollow-body_Electric_Guitars/Epiphone/Casino_-_Cherry.htm

As it turns out, it was the john lennon inspired casino that has big upgrades from the normal casino, including Gibson USA P90's.

http://www.long-mcquade.com/products/8137/Guitars/Hollow-body_Electric_Guitars/Epiphone/John_Lennon_Casino_-_Natural.htm

The guitar sounds 100% better than the sheraton II that i had recently. The electronics are better and the full hollow body sounds nicer when playing acoustically. if it wasn't for the god awful natural finish i'd probably keep this thing for longer than a week before trading it again.

I'll upload a sound clip tomorrow, i'm really digging these P90's. They're a hell of a lot nicer than the P90's that were on my PRS soapboar II

I think beautiful is an exaggeration, but it definitely sounds and feels amazing

what's hilarious is that while i was looking up info on it, i found a video clip of john lennon complaining about the guitar, haha.

Ah-ha, that's pretty funny. I love P-90's and The Beatles. I would rather have P-90s in a SG though.

Well, technically it could be done, but only in the same way that you could change a cat into a hamburger. It's an unpleasant process, and nobody is happy with the result.

Dude, excellent haul. I'd love to get my hands on one of these - well the proper John Lennon Epi Casino rather than the Inspired By. But nevertheless excellent guitar. Look forward to the sound clips.

Two questions - how's the fit and finish on this machine, and how much of a step up is it from the Korean Epiphone Casinos.

Nope. Not that i'm against natural finishes, i'm an acoustic player more than anything, but this one isn't one I like. Yellowish maple body joined with a brown mahogany neck, black headstock, some other random wood under the neck to give it a tilt...epiphones were never meant to have their fine details flaunted...imo every epiphone should be covered with a thick layer of paint. The vintage sunburst would have been the same price, and it would have hidden the sudden changes in wood and lack of attention to detail.

Everything about the sound and feel of this guitar is as it should, but it's an epiphone through and through. Hopefully it will be gone by tomorrow, someone has offered me a Boucher Natural Goose for it.

Probably not, although i've been playing it all night and i'm trying really hard not to develop feelings for it. It sounds wonderful even unplugged, and that, to me, is the sign of a good guitar.

I started out last year with an epiphone SG that I paid 50$ for, and have been trading my way up towards a top of the line acoustic ever since. If the deal tomorrow goes through, i'll have my top of the line acoustic and can do it all over again except look for an electric.

To get this far i've gone through the following guitars:

Epiphone SG 400
Dean Cadillac
Washburn Cumberland Jumbo
Epiphone Sheraton II
Epiphone Masterbilt EF500R
1977 Ovation 1112-1
Epiphone JL Casino

If I get the boucher acoustic i'll be stopping there (hopefully) and I'll start looking for a real les paul...i currently only have an epiphone custom. Although the boucher will replace another nice acoustic I have, so I won't have to start with a 200$ guitar next go-round, I'll already have almost 1500$ worth of tradeable guitars to work with.

But (flameshield up) I have a strong hatred towards the Beatles (/flameshield).

And the gold hardware looks "off" with the finish.

I know, right? chrome pickups, chrome bridge, flimsy chrome trapeze...and...wait for it....gold tuners.

Like I said, if i was blind I would love this guitar.

isnt that because his guitar was a brown finish which he sanded down to get the natural look, hence the mismatched hardware.

Not just the natural look, but the natural tone of the wood... there's not another guitar on the market that sounds like a J.L. Casino, because of the "Lack of" finish on it.

If I thought you'd go for it, I'd trade my P-93 Riviera for it... but the Accoustic you pictured isn't a bad deal either.. especially if your more into accoustics...

Good trade up!!

that's the reason for the mismatch in colour between the body and neck - maple body, mahogany neck.

the tuners are different because he replaced the original klusons with grovers when he had the guitar's finish removed. whether he chose gold for some reason or whether that's just the colour the replacements just happened to be is anyone's guess really

It looks so much worse in the video. The colour reminds me of those cheap $50 classical guitars..........and puke.........

What amp are you playing through?

yeah it's definitely only a couple shades away from a gross vintage tv yellow. I just don't understand...there are two versions of this guitar that are identical in specs and price, one has the finish and one has it stripped off. Why anyone would choose the "natural" finish over this is beyond me

honestly if it had that finish, i'd keep it. it's that nice to play.

I'm playing through an epi valve jr...but you can't blame the sound quality on the amp, my camera doesn't do bass...it actually sounds good in real life. I could have just recorded through my studio pod but that wouldn't have shown what the p90's sound like on their own. I'll try doing that now, but i don't think it will sound that great.

I'll try to do it again tomorrow with the camera further away from the amp
it really does sound wonderful, i'm just not set up for recording in high quality. or playing in high quality, for that matter...

I tried to use my studio pod just now, but all that does is take the dry input and process it into one of its preset sounds...not really a fair judge of how the guitar sounds, you just can't replicate the raw sound of a guitar playing through a tube amp with no filters.
