Anyone else notice how friggen ugly nearly all new cars have been? It started around 2008 and it's getting out of control. It's mostly with Japanese and German cars. Too many curves, damn headlights go half way up the hood, too "feline" looking if that makes sense. They're over designed. It looks like they're taking last years model and melting it in an oven.

I mean the BMW e46 (2000-2005)...... gorgeous
New bimmers ...... F$%K Chris Bangle!

I have far more of an issue with how much modern cars weigh than with how they look.

This exactly. There's no substance!

edit: in older cars I mean - new sedans weight on average, about 300 - 500 pounds more than they used to.

What bugs me is how all the different companies make cars that all look the damn same. I'm not talking about rebadged cars either (gm/chevy, mercury/ford). I'm in the market for a new car and all rook same.

The Aston Martin DB9 is aerodynamic. The new civic, not so much.

You're a guitarist on a guitar off topic forum. You know fuck all about aerodynamics.

It could be worse. We could have a resurgence of the "used-bar-of-soap" styling that was popular in the '80s.

You're wrong.
Automotive engineers have just discovered what us aviation engineers have known for decades. Rounder is slipperier than angels in an subsonic airstream.

Just because your brain can only comprehend guitars doesn't mean the rest of us are so single minded.

New Camaros could've come out a lot better imo.

The new muscle cars I'm actually kinda down with. Drove a Challenger last week.

This is exactly what I don't like about newer cars.

/Just an example, tbh I don't like either car but this is for comparison purposes.

1987 CR-X (HF)
1,713 lbs and with the updated EPA testing gets 41mpg (average) with it's 1.6L @135hp

skip ahead to the future a few Successor models down the line.

2011 CR-Z
loaded with hybrid tech to increase fuel economy
2,720lbs (CVT) 2,670 (MT)
1.5L engine (nearly 25 years later) gets 112hp
plus the Electric motor with it's 11hp brings a gran total of
123hp, wow, quite an improvement eh?
oh an fuel economy by US standards gets an average of 31mpg.

Compared to it's predecessor its doing quite crap.

This car is heavier than my extended 4 door sedan from the 90s and only gets marginally better mileage than it.

Improvements? Luxury and safety. Not much imo.

EDIT: I like that Used-bar-of-soap styling thank you very much

86?
Though yes most of them are to fat and ugly. Just look at the new fleet of American muscle. Camaro, Mustang, Charger all are as ugly as they come, Though i must admit i do like the look of the challenger.
The new BMW's are gross. I'm iffy about the new Merc's.
The Aventador looks ugly in pictures. See it in person it's ****ing magnificent.
