I need to upgrade the speakers in my Laney cab as I have a 100w head and the speakers only reach to 70w. Quite scary!

I have an offer for a marshall jcm 800 2x12 cab for £120 but I could just get the same speakers (Celestion G12T-75) in the marshall cab and save around £60.

Should I just save money? Or are their any noticable sound differences, such as sounding superior if I bought the Marshall cab?

Thanks, Luke.

Sounds like you have a good cab, I'd definitely keep that Laney cab, maybe look for some replacement speakers for it just to keep up with the 100w head. I would imagine if you don't crank it all the way, your cab should hold it.

If your speakers are rated at 70w each, then you should have absolutely no problem cranking your 100w head with the cabinet you have. Remember, cabinet wattage is measured on the total of the speaker wattage inside, therefore your 2x12 cab containing 70watt speakers will handle up to 140w.

Might be pushing a little as most 4x12 cabs can handle up to around 280-300w, but you shouldn't need to upgrade for this reason.

I take it you mean each speaker is only 35W yes?
There's nothing wrong with the way Laney cabs are built and those little Marshall 1936 cabs are a bit lack lustre. They are undersized jobbies and they lack quite a bit of punch.
Is the Laney cab open or closed backed?
Either way, I'd just replace the speakers and save your money. Marshall 1936 cabs are nothing to write home about.

I used to own a 1936. I wasn't very sad to see it go. They are ok but only ok.
