Recently I was informed by another UG forum user that a song I'd written with Guitar Pro as a part of a competition in the tabs and chords forum.

The song in question is by a band called Cloudyhead called North Korea is Best Korea it can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr2JdajcCUw everything from 1:35 and on is written by me. Best I can tell it was released by them March 2011

You can find my song posted August 1 2009 here: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showpost.php?p=21007555&postcount=7

Again on August 20 2009 in it's own thread here: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1186706

And a recorded version (which sadly I didn't post until they had already released theirs) here: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11053713

Browsing through some of their other songs I also believe that they have stolen material from other members of the T&C forums.

----

This sucks. While I honestly don't care for that song all that much it still hurts to see something I've written so blatantly stolen. They didn't change anything... drums, bass, rhythm and lead are all identical.

So, I would appreciate all your help spreading the word about these Cloudyhead guys as well as any advice on possible actions I can take against them.

Since your song is published as a post on this site, you might be able to take them to court. But it might not be worth the cost. If you're really bothered by it, get a consultation from a copyright lawyer.

...modes and scales are still useless.

I was not expecting that at all, honestly. I read that he did it and I was a bit apprehensive to fully believe it.. and then the lead was EXACTLY the same, drums too. Very surprising.

Sorry man :/ I remember that song when you first put it out, too.

EDIT: I actually talked to him for a bit since I have him on FB and he says he'll be talking with you and his co-writer of Analog. Hopefully it all gets straightened out.

Hello everyone.

This is a very, very shocking situation for me. I believe this is plagiarism too, but not in a typical sense. Let me explain.

I used to lurk around here but never really got into posting. Now, I had a writing partner that helped spawn what became a great deal of all the tracks on Analog. We wrote from forever away via email and Guitar Pro. I just contacted him after not talking for like a year and a half he admitted to the plagiarism, saying he pulled that part (and apparently other parts of that EP!) from this website. I'm as upset as you are icronic.

Now, what to do? What I've already done is pull that music from my Bandcamp and Youtube, and I will be pulling my copyright claim to the music. This is incredibly painful for me, but it's the right thing. I feel just as betrayed and offended as you surely feel.

I'm going to inbox you my email icronic so we can talk further if you like.

I think you're handling this the right way.

Just wanted to quickly give an update on the situation. I've exchanged a number of emails with Cloudyhead and I believe that the explanation he gave in an earlier post to be the truth.

I do find it incredibly disturbing that someone would pass off another persons music in a collaborative effort as their own. Nobody wins in a situation like this.

I'm sorry to hear that mate. I know of a similar story to yours, I used to post on mysongbook.com for a while and we where a close community of musicians when one of the posters had the same problem as you. His song was stolen litterly note for note, no changes where made.

We all posted on the bands myspace page that the song was stolen, we spammed the **** out of their page until they agreed to take it down in addition to private correspondance with the theif who took the song.

Bummer of a situation but Cloudyhead did the right thing. And amicably handled, as well as professionally handled. Nice to see things like this happening... gives you a better feeling about humankind... somewhat better feeling.
