Chinese Twitter Says Kim Jong-Un Was Assassinated This Morning In Beijing
The Chinese micro-blogging service Weibo has exploded with rumors that new North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un was assassinated today at the North Korean embassy in Beijing. Twitter death rumors are totally cross-cultural.
Here's one version of the rumor, cleaned up from the crappy Google translation:

According to reliable sources, North Korean leader [Kim Jong-Un] was killed in Beijing in February 10 2012, at 2 o'clock and 45 minutes. Unknown persons broke into his residence shot and were subsequently shot and killed by the bodyguard.

Official Internet Rule: Any (Chinese) Twitter post that begins with "according to reliable source" is almost certainly fake. But this hasn't stopped Chinese netizens from speculating that the killing was a military coup, and posting blurry pictures purporting to show an unusual number of vehicles parked at the North Korean embassy. ChinaSMACK staff writer Joe Xu suggests reports of large number of cars at the embassy may have sparked the rumor. "Rumors like this pop up every other week," he writes on Twitter.

We will only know Kim Jong-Un's fate for sure when a new picture of him looking at things emerges.

Do you think the [insert nickname] of North Korea is dead?

So many different reports and rumours, some say he's dead, some say he's on the run, some say he's been kidnapped, some say injured but they all seem to relay that there's some form of coup taking place

Pretty hilarious if it is just a hoax. If not, things got interesting again.

What an unfortunate end. He was undoubtedly set to underpin a new peace treaty with the South. Unusually fast after his ill stricken father passed. However, he shall live on in. The unending light that is the Kim Jong family.

Also, NK civil war would be...interesting.

If it is true it was most likely the Chinese. North Korea is a bit of an embarrasment to them, now that the Chinese have basically given up on communism

Probably wouldn't be good.

A China vs North Korea war would be worse.

Well South Korea would probably jump in on anything like that that would happen. Japan would probably follow considering interest in the region. So, China, S Korea and Japan v. N Korea seems like a pretty out of balance fight. The worst part though would be the disagreement with what to do with the country after. China will want it for their own, S Korea to reunify the country and Japan would possibly argue for its independence and transition to democracy.

Do I think any Twitter posts are a reliable source of info, especially when they claim to be based on a reliable source they don't cite? **** no, Twitter can go **** itself if it's being used for anything other than silly bits of banter. So there's no reason to think he's been assassinated.

However, I would not be surprised if Kim Jung Un were assassinated. It seems strange that the Chinese would do so, but perhaps it was staged that way or someone was taking advantage of him being outside his element. Most likely, the military are the one's who would take him out because they are practically in power already and just have one little thing left to sweep under the rug.

>now that the Chinese have basically given up on communism

It's been quite a while. Deng Xiaoping was the one who started that in the late '70s and early '80s.

Second, they're still allies with North Korea. They're like North Korea's only ally.

I've said pretty much this same thing. Or also like a kid that threatens older, much stronger kids on the playground.
