Basically anything from 3 Feet Smaller, heard it in FreakOut! Extreme Freeride (some skiing game) and NFS is responsible for introducing me to Rise Against, and other heavier kinds of music. also this:

Let me get this straight. You're asking a bunch of people who are sitting at their computers, likely due to boredom, what to do for fun.

A reasonable amount of Iron Maiden from Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now. I was 8 at the time to be fair, there was little other chance of me discovering Maiden at that time.

Everything from every Tony Hawk game ever

Except for Papa Roach, exactly this.

Also "Back To Shalla Bal" by Satriani on the original Formula One game was intense! Made me get into guitar

It was years before I realised that the in-game soundtrack to Prince of Persia:Warrior Within was an instrumental version of I Stand Alone by Godsmack. Brilliant fight music.

Though in all fairness the Need for Speed games introduced me to more music than anything.

The original Hell March is classic stuff too - Huah!

I'm convinced James Hetfield must have been on a Red Alert binge when he was writing 'Just A Bullet Away'

yeah I noticed that too, though Hetfield really can't compare to the awesomeness that is Hell March

The woman who performed it also did "I Am The Wind" for Symphony of the Night.

GTA San Andreas had a load of cool songs.

First time I heard Them Bones, Plush and Killing in The Name to name a few, and I didn't have a clue as to who they were when I was playing.

Most of the Tony Hawk soundtrack. Some that stand out in my mind are Pain by Jimmy Eat World and Unknown Soldier by The Casualties in Underground 2.

I'm gathering that this is for licensed music in video games, not music composed for video games? e.g., no Koji or Nobuo?

I never would've gotten into the Black Keys if Strange Times hadn't been in GTAIV. A lot of the stuff on Radio Broker tickled my fancy. Even though I feel like a hipster listening to some it.

Also, all the original 50's/60's music from the Bioshock games were awesome.

A whole lot of songs from San Andreas, including Pretend We're Dead, Personal Jesus, and Plush. The first time I heard Ace of Spades and The Boy Who Destroyed The World (and, by extension, Motorhead and AFI,) was in Tony Hawks. Also, Live and Learn, and Open Your Heart from the two Sonic Adventure games.

Just Cannibal Ox from Tony Hawk Underground.
All of the rest I knew from before and loved having in the game or just didn't give a shit about/used to like but don't care about anymore.

[quote="'-[NiL"]-']I think the Lavender Town song has it beat.
I think straight-up yes. But the sheer amount of time you had to listen to I WANNA TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE!!!! (selecting characters, which usually ended up being almost half of the time you played the game) made it worse due to being like 10 seconds repeated that I've probably heard for hours and hours.
