Ok, so I'm watching some old EI Yugoslavian 12ax7s on ebay, and they seem to be going for relatively low prices for vintage tubes. I haven't really heard much about the quality and sound of that brand. Has anyone used or heard those tubes, and can offer me some input about how they stack up to new tubes like JJ or Tungsol and to old tubes like Mullard, Amperex, etc? Hopefully Cathbard or 311 will come by this...

Thanks in advance!

Define "old" - the Ei factory only closed a couple of years ago. Old stock tubes from Ei could be from 2005.

They were good tubes, had some quality issues. They're not generally ranked with those venerable old makers though.

Oh ok, I read that the Yugoslavia factory was destroyed in the Serbia-Bosnia conflict in the '90s. I didn't realize any were made after that. I didn't figure they were quite on the top tier like those aforementioned brands, since they seem to be rarely mentioned in the same conversation Just curious, though. Thanks for the info!
