So I'm sitting in my US history class at college and the professor is now going over basic geography because some girl didn't know where Canada was on a map.

This is ridiculous. It's a college class and this is the shit we're covering. I learned this in 4th grade.

Is the educational system really that ****ed that people are that stupid? Last week the professor was going over the Protestant Reformation and then when he moved on to the rise of Capitilism one guy asked him what kind of religion that was.

So this isn't just a rant, does anyone else have any stories of people being insufferably stupid in classes at school? Preferably at the high school or college level?

Sorry for any bad typing. I'm on my iPod touch.

Stupid person, reporting in.

Also, there was a person in one of my criminal justice classes who asked if it was legal for minors to have/look at child porn.

When I was doing my Engineering degree, there were people who were on the course that couldn't rearrange a basic mathematical formula, and were apparently proud of the fact that they were massively inept.

Some people are too stupid to be allowed to live.

Some smart guy once said that the "level of smart" in the world is constant, regardless of population. So, we have increasing population, but the "level of smart" is still the same, so more and more people are stupid.

Im an engineering student. When we went to see a lecturer about some coursework, the lecturer asked my friend how many centimetres in a metre. His response was "err....10?" I couldnt help but laugh out loud. Funnily enough, my lecturer looked like he was about to do the same but restrained it. Also, we had a maths test back and this same person wanted to know his percentage. He got out his calculator to work out 45/50 as a percentage when all you have to do is double it. Oh how we pick on him now when hes all smug about things.

There was girl in one of my classes a couple of years a go whi is incredibly thick.

She once asked how long a metre ruler was.
Another time we were talking about this guy that was murdered and she asked if he died after he was murdered.
'And after a while, you can work on points for style.
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake,
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile.'

'You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.'

THIS IS 100% TRUE. I have to say this because it's so unbelievable you'll think I'm trolling as usual.
In grade ten health, we had one of those basic start-of-the-year tests. You know, those easy as hell true or false tests just to see where everyone's at?
Basically, this one guy put false for "testicles are round in shape". We all laughed at how stupid that was, until he stood up and yelled "WELL, It's not like I look down there when I shower!"

The room was silent.

You can't make this shit up.
#25
I don't think it's necessarily the educational system, people are just stupid.

You can have the best teacher in the world and if a student doesn't make the effort to learn, they won't.

The sad thing is society seems to be glamorizing stupidity with crap like "Jersey Shore" etc. (There are more examples than that going back further, it was just the first obvious example).

Honestly, I think the movie "Idiocracy" is becoming prophetic.

Wow, TS, those are bad. One that comes to mind is a girl in my history class recently being convinced there were 300 billion people in the US, as opposed to about 300 million.

TS knows where canada is on a map AND what capitalism is.

Wow, you must be so smart. I can understand why you belittle others now.

My roomie thought pol pot was cold hot, and kept asking why 'holiday in cambodia' was referencing icy/hot patches.

He also thought the term 'pay no mind' makes no sense whatsoever. Even after explaination.

Obviously you fall into the latter category if you didn't get this.

I understand the point.

But you fail to understand what school is for -- to learn. They might come from bad school districts or all kinds of other backgrounds.

Very childish and immature imo to make fun of classmates and shows your own intelligence level imo.

It's obvious you're in a freshman/soph level class where the students are still new so it's expected some will be more behind than others.

You raise a fair point, and it was wrong for me to have been rude. Sorry.

But still, not knowing where Canada is isn't even something you learn in school. It's basic knowledge, especially for Americans (It's right beside them for shits sake!). Capitalism, you can probably find many people that don't know what that is. What about the example I said though? The guy didn't even know that balls are round and he HAS balls. You don't have to be from a rich family to know this. Even the poor and undereducated know this. Some people are just genuinely beyond stupid.

I see your point, I just find it ridiculous that someone wouldn't know where Canada is.

Edit: ^ Also that.

The capitalism one was probably a little mean tbh. I think what got to me was him thinking it was a religion. Not knowing the inner workings of capitalism is way more understandable.
