Why does everything suck these days? As in, how come any time new media comes out (an album, a movie, etc) everyone just bitches about how it sucks? Does anyone else actually try to look for the positive aspects of anything or am I the only one? Surely you all have noticed this trend, haven't you?

This.

Instead of looking for the positive aspects of certain things people look for negative aspects to further reitterate their reasons as to why 'X band/artist was better in Y year'.

I can't stand these new fangled records that they are coming up with these days. They are small, shiny, and you can't get the fucking needle to stay on them.

You see, back in my day, hurka, hurka, derpidie derp...

This.

Great movies and great albums come out every year. Most of them just don't get the spotlight like a lot of garbage does. With greater work and research comes greater reward.

People, read the whole post. I'm asking why everyone is so negative all the time. I, for one, try to find pleasure in music/movies even if they're not the best ever.

Hey, champ, it's okay. That was just their pre-fame tour. They'll be back and bigger than ever!

I try to find pleasure in media, but in some things, it's just not worth it. There are lot of examples of steaming piles of shit that are completely void of redeeming factors.

Not to say that there aren't a whole bunch of new bands, music, and movies that are fantastic, either.

I've noticed this too but I'm not sure why it is. Maybe I'm just in the age group that thinks everything sucks, or maybe everything does suck.

I have noticed a lot of interest in nostalgia over the past few years.

Looks who's on the front page news on UG: Van Halen, Foo Fighters, Guns and Roses. Although the news about them is recent, these are bands that have been around for 20-30 years now.

Guitar World puts a lot of classic rock on the front cover, as if the glory days of guitar music are long gone. All guitar-related music in the charts is backwards-leaning indie stuff. Vintage is considered better. Vinyl is becoming more and more popular, as are vintage and vintage style guitars. More bands are returning to analog recording techniques.

Movies coming out this year: The Dark Knight Rises (sequel), Men in Black 3 (sequel), The Amazing Spiderman (remake), Total Recall (remake), The Hobbit (book adaptation), The Great Gatsby (book adaptation), 007 Skyfall (old franchise)

On UG and other forums, there are tons of "nostalgia" threads about cartoons, toys and video games from the 90's. This might be because the primary demographic of internet forums are in their early 20's, but the sense of yearning for the past is really strong.

I'm sure this stuff has been happening for a long time, but only recently have I started to notice it everywhere.

Let's face it, music started it's decline when the Beatles broke up.

I don't think things suck more or less than they have in the past.

You just hear about it all the damn time because of the internet.
