Which sounds worse to you:

A. You are filthy.

B. You are filth.

Also, I'd love to know what part of the English-speaking world you hail from.

B, and the part that speaks English the right way.

Your signature is gonna have me up all night with a calculator.

Definitely B. Think about it: "You are dirty" is way better than "You are dirt". Filthy means covered in garbage, trash, something useless and disgusting. Filth means garbage, trash, something useless and disgusting.

The first one describes the person as filth, it's an adjective. It implies that the person can change. The second one says that the person is filth, something that they can't change.

EDIT: The stresses in the two influence also the tone.

You are fil - thy.

You are filth.

The second one ends on an unstressed syllable, which makes it weaker than the second option where every syllable is stressed, which gives it a biting, mean quality.
^^The above is a Cryptic Metaphor^^

That's what I thought. I was mostly curious if it was different in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, etc. I think the same concept applies in a lot of other languages.

Any non-English speakers have the same thing in their native tongue?

If you did A you'd describe the person in their present tense ie; they just came back from a muddy fourwheeler ride hence they are covered in mud = filthy
You could also use it as a descriptive noun or whatever meaning the slang would be filthy, really, ie; You are filthy rich
You are filth reminds me of someone like a compressed garbage cube with arms and legs.

Filthy implies it isn't perminent, you can change. Filth means you are, to your very core, filth and you always will be.

So B, and I'm from a little bit more north than mid-south-west-central.

B and Scotland. Filthy's just a description. Calling someone filth means that's your overall conclusion of them as a person.

B, ON Canada.

Filthy means that, well, they have filth on them, or they've done something filthy.

Filth means that they actually are filth, so that's worse.

And like someone else said above, filth just sounds quicker and meaner.

As everyone else has said, filthy just means you are dirty. It's a quality that can be changed with good personal hygiene. Calling someone filth means that they are a scummy, despicable person.
