We drank in the shade of the poison tree
under a canopy of "let her down easy"
linking arms and sipping from each others cups
it was cute, yeah, but there was no allegorical "forever"
and like we had more than just that moment
she'd say things like "One day"
but on a cosmic scale of things at least we only had today
she only has six minutes.

I walked you through the gate healthy to the other side of the terminal
carrying everything you owned in a smile and an envelope
A one way ticket and familiar beep
synching heart with heart and tears with machines
baiting bated breath with feeble murmurs
from a frail frame quaking under bedsheets
surrounded by a circle of stone pillars donning suits and fake bravery
except for me, crumbling in the corner

we missed the middle;
replayed in photographs
set to a sad refrain
and silent tears
Music is an art form that celebrates potential. So long as you're looking for it, you'll always find it.
