As you can see from the title, I am looking to buy a new amplifier, but I'm tired of crawling through the online stores, finding one I like the look of and checking the reviews on here, so I thought I'd ask the experts in the GG&A forum.

I'm looking for an amp that has nice clean tones, suitable for a song like "Hey, Soul Sister", but can handle the metulz (Metallica, Machine Head, Trivium, etc.) when I add overdrive pedals and the like, but can also handle stuff like Pink Floyd.

In short, a versatile amp. I have a budget of about £300 ($470), but I can go slightly over. Also, not a digital/modelling amp. I don't care if it's solid-state, or tube, I just need an amp.

Also, before anyone comments the Epi LP Special-II is a crap guitar, I know, and I am getting a new guitar as well.

I'm using the VHT Special 6 Ultra which handles most that that alright although I don't play that much metal and you've got to tweak the settings a bit to get it to do high gain.

also available as a head/cab:

the open back combo also sits comfortably on top of the closed cab for a lovely mini stack although I haven't been able to afford the cab yet.

Other options might be the Blackstar HT5 although a bit over budget:

P.S nowt wrong with the LP special, get the pups upgraded and the frets dressed and it's a pretty good guitar.

What about an original Tweaker? Im not sure of the price, but im sure its close to your budget. Cant really crank out the br00tz without pedals though. But its verastile.

EDIT: nothing wrong with the blackstar though if thats more your cup of tea.
