the frets on my guitar stick out a bit on the side, i know theres a term for this but i forget what it is. how do i fix this, just file them down?
What kind of guitar? Acoustic? Electric? Which make and model? It's possible the relative humidity is low inside your house, allowing the wood on the neck to shrink a little, exposing the frets. This can be fixed by properly humidifying the house. It's also possible the guitar is just a cheap one and the frets weren't finished to the proper level that a quality guitar would receive. In this case, carefully filing and finishing the frets will make a difference. If it's just a matter of humidification and you file the frets, when the wood takes on moisture and swells to its normal dimensions, the frets might be too short, effecting playability.
