Any other Law students here? Or even Lawyers?

What area do you / are you hoping to specialise in?

Do you enjoy it?

I went back to Uni today, have my Law classes tomorrow.
RIP Tom Searle.

I'm a law student. At one of the highest ranked universities in Australia. Yes I am better than you.

My good friend is currently in London doing his post-grad training. The amount of money he is set to make is truly staggering (and disgusting when you think about it).

EDIT: Oh, and he also says it is a highly depressing environment to find himself in, so he drinks away the weekend (like a lot of his colleagues. A lot of the live up the stereotype of the posh, coked up, yuppie lawyer. ).

UoM?

A very nice uni. Am I correct in remembering that you can only take law at UoM post-grad as a JD?

No, ANU. Those pricks took no.1 off us in the last round of dubious university rankings (which are based on what exactly?). I'm doing it undergrad, and I don't think I'm even going to use it as anything other than a showy bit of paper. Still have 4 years left to decide though, haven't found it too bad, although it isn't too interesting either.

My GF works in law, they had 60 people apply for a position at her place, the person they hired was willing to work for free just to get in the door - Screw working for years to get qualified then have to work for free, learn Chinese and become a translator instead.

Ah, very nice. I know someone in their 4th year at ANU law. She loves it, so perhaps it gets more interesting for you guys, there.

Best of luck getting through the rest of it!

ANU doesn't need high ATAR entrance scores to be pretentious and wanky; according to all those questionable University rankings surveys/studies, ANU is consistently in the top 2 or 3 in Australia. Also, university cut-offs are based more on how many students are at each uni than the overall rating of each uni.

Law student here. I was hoping to become a defense lawyer (or public defender, whatever you like to call it), mainly involved in helping youths and the working class, but I've found that has changed in the past year, and as of now, I'm pretty unsure of what area I'd like to enter into. I'm enjoying my degree, but I don't plan on entering into the profession right out of university anyway. Although, knowing me, that'll likely change too.

I worked as a law clerk at my uncle's law firm for about a week 2 summers ago. It was dreadful.

My dad's a lawyer, but he does all criminal law on charges that carry federal prison terms, so he doesn't find it boring. For a while he did a lot of real estate, divorces, personal injury, etc., and he hated the shit out of it.

Funnily enough I'm trying to transfer courses.

Law is interesting enough, just I'm not enjoying it, and I don't particularly need it for going to RMAS...
