Hello, I have an early 90's Peavey 5150 2x12 combo. I'm having really bad feedback on my lead channel when I go up past 2. However, my rhythm channel is still good. So I have been playing on that. Just sucks cause can't really get the punch I want. Anyways, if anyone has or has had this is issue please help me out.

Thank You

I want to say my gain is at 3-4 maybe. It's not to high. The tubes were just replaced so I know that is not the issue. That was my first thought when I started having this problem. So in a sense it was a waste of $60, but got new tubes though. LOL

This.

Actually, if it's still running the stock tubes and you haven't changed them since you bought the amp, swap all of them out, both pre and power.

EDIT: Damn, ninja'd.

Which guitar(s) does the amp do this with? Are you using active pickups? Have you tried swapping out cables?

Also, just because you got new tubes doesn't mean one of them isn't bad. A tube can shit out any time.

Just because a tube is new means nothing. with your gain at that level I bet it is a preamp tube. Do you have any spare 12ax7's laying around? if you do start moving 1 preamp tube at a time untill you find which is bad.

maybe check if your playing near anything that might cause interferance like microwave or telephone or something. but ive heard that peavey 6505 are pretty noisy, maybe the same goes for 5150s. or you could buy a noise gate

If you don't have any spare 12ax7's, just do a tap test. Sounds like one of your preamp tubes is microphonic

Pretty much all my guitars other than my Gibson have active EMG's/ That is a good point didn't think of that one or more of the new tubes still being bad/ The cable change yes I have done that one too.
