Anyone here are LP experts? Can you tell me the pros and cons of the 89 LP Custom compare to LP Custom from other years? Better, worse? and why?
Should be a pretty good guitar. Gibson produced pretty good guitars from late 80s on to repair their rep from the Norlin ownership years.
80's Gibsons are notorious for being below-average for Gibson. But I'm sure it is nice as it is a Custom and 1989.
Again, the '80s rep (and '70s rep) has to do with the cost cutting and low quality of Gibson guitars under it's Norlin ownership. The company almost went under in the mid-80s and then was sold and quality went up again in the late '80s. The Norlin quality of the early '80s is irrelevant here because it's not a Norlin guitar. The post-'85 Gibsons are excellent instruments.80's Gibsons are notorious for being below-average for Gibson. But I'm sure it is nice as it is a Custom and 1989.
Thanks, Al!! I didn't know about that piece of the history and that is very comforting and helpful.
