Should it be you must have listened to:
3 songs?
5/6 songs?

An album?

I don't like when people judge after listening to like 30 seconds of a song, that really annoys me.

and to save from arguements, can we agree they have to be self-respecting musicians

How about... it doesn't matter?

If someone listens to 30 seconds of country and dislikes it, that's cool. As long as they aren't being a fanatical hater, it doesn't matter.

Q: "Do I have a legit reason to dislike this?"

If so, then judge to your heart's content.

If you listen to it and like how it sounds, it's good. If not, it's bad...

Not necessarily.
There's no such thing; there never was. Where I am going you cannot follow me now.

It's true, it is. But there's no point worrying about it [IMO].

I know if I'm going to figure out if I like a band, I usually listen to two or three whole songs, unless it really grates on me.
I see myself as an intelligent, sensitive human, with the soul of a clown which forces me to blow it at the most important moments.

I can understand where TS is coming from.

There are some artists whose music is very diverse, and listening to only one song isn't enough.

Or, listening to short excerpts of multiple songs. Some prog rock songs can end up being 20 minutes long, and a 30 second sample of it wouldn't exactly be enough to judge it by.

Not 'til you have a PhD. & can write a critical analysis explaining & defending your judgment, & it's gotta be published in a legit peer reviewed journal, not some lowbrow music zine.

That' stupid. The only guide or rule you should be using for your own opinions on music should be your own ears.

The more familiar you are with a genre the faster you can make a judgement on it. Because you've heard what's good and what's just a clone band mimicking others and what's flat out terrible. I've dismissed bands in my favorite genres in under 10 seconds. With the majority of those seconds being me making a disgusted face while pressing the stop button.

Usually if something doesn't make me instantly stop it outright I'll give it a better chance.
