People generally seem to think of people who spend their free time online as nerds, but then they go sit on their recliner and veg out to cops re runs for hours on end. I stopped watching TV 8 years ago because I thought it was a waste of time and there were way too many commercials. So basically, what have you learned from watching TV (discovery and travel channels don't count because the average joe the plumber smith doesn't watch those channels)?

There's no such thing; there never was. Where I am going you cannot follow me now.

I learned that I could watch television shows on the internet without the annoying commercials.

What the **** is wrong with discovery channel? Tell me right now!!

Anyway, lots of things really. But it's made me much stupider than I would have been otherwise. People who spend all there time watching TV are people wasted.

The discovery channel is the best channel to watch. Have some hilarious and educating shows, which makes TV not a huge waste of time. Although what happened to TLC??? It's called the learning channel and now it's filled with bullshit like toddlers and tiaras and kardashian garbage!!

But yeah, I watch my shows online now. Hardly ever sit in front of the TV, which saves me about 30% more time that I would have wasted watching commercials.

Nothing, it's just the average person doesn't watch it. It has a niche audience. Shows like Judge Judy and American Idol appeal to the masses.

What?

Everyone I know watches the Discovery Channel.

Go to the local pub and during a conversation say something like "so how about that discovery channel last night?" and see what happens.

It's demographic is mostly stay at home moms, unemployed people and retired people cuz it's on in the middle of the day. I have never met a single person in my life who admitted to watching the discovery channel.

I'm not saying that people watch it religiously, but everyone I know watches Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, Deadliest Catch, or Man Vs Wild at least once in a while.

And I also watch TV to laugh. Not everything has to be educational.

Plus I watch a shit ton of sports.

You must live in a very educated town, then. Most people here are all about Jersey Shore and the Kardashians.

That being a tall, thin guy with an obsession for math + science, multiple degrees at an early age, social naivety, and logical wit makes millions of people love you overnight.

The truth?

It doesn't.

I hate you, Big Bang Theory.

I guess. I'm not saying none of them watch Jersey SHore (I hate it though) but shows like Mythbuster and Dirty Jobs were fairly popular in my group of friends.

2 things I learned from this thread.

Watching TV = Wasting time

Sitting on the computer =/= Wasting time

On a serious note, I've learned that people will watch anything.

I mean ANYTHING. Convince people it's trendy to watch donkey shows for an hour every day, and watch how many people do it. As long as it's on MTV, people will watch it.

You, good sir, have not gone over to your friends house after a hard night of drinking to find 2 dudes passed out in the same room both holding their own flaccid cocks in hand, passed out, with porn on the tv.

What have I learned from TV? That people will watch anything as long as it makes them feel better about their own small lives.

/pessimism.

Nothing.

I have learned so much from the internet though. Outside of social skills and such, probably more than I have in real life.
