Hi i got a line 6 pod ux1 that comes with pod farm 2. I want to get a better soundcard with 8 inputs. The problem is that i cant use pod farm 2 or the pod farm 2 vat plugin when the pod isnt plugged in. Is there a way i can use pod farm without the pod? If not is there any similar free vst like pod farm? I also got a pod hd500, but i often like to add effects and stuff after recording. Please help me! I use reaper btw.

Check page 1.

btw, I think if you have a line 6 interface you can get a free upgrade to pod farm 2.5 which can be used with any DAW and doesn't require you having our pod plugged in.
Let's party.

But i have the 2.5. I have hear that your licence is built into the pod. I have heard that you need to buy pod farm as a standalone to use it without a pod.

Also is there any free clean amp simulations like fender twin etc? Also, is there any free cabinet simulations in .dll format? All the ones listed here is only wav files.

Yes, look up Headcase.

As for why they all come in .wav, you need to load them into an Impulse Response Reverb program.

I thought that Line6 stuff just used a registration system now, much like NI and so you could use PodFarm with other stuff.

Not sure why you'd want to though.

Hey guys,

I also posted this in UG's Official Guide to VST Guitar Amp Simulation topic, but this one appears to be a little current. Hopefully someone can help or, if this is not the correct place, point me in the right direction.

I just stumbled upon your tutorials and I have to say, I'm floored by the tone you have allowed me to create. I've been using Guitar Rig 3 for years, or rather fighting with it. I love death metal, and trying to get a really good death metal tone in Guitar Rig 3 was always difficult. It's hard for me to record on my actual rig (5150) at all hours of the night, and I don't have the best mics, so this solution has been life changing for me.

Now, I use Cubase 5, and for the life of me I cannot seem to get an exported audio file that is loud enough for my taste. Any ideas? I'd be happy to post pictures / describe my DAW, but for now I will upload a clip of the song I put together to practice your tones tutorial.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

I've tried S-Gear 2 by Scuffhamamps today and i'm very impressed, it's sooo ''warm'' for being a digital amp; however I think it's more oriented toward clean and crunch tones, don't expect much in the high gain area, the few presets I've tried were very disappointing to say the least.

Heard about this new amp sim by BrainWorx called the RockRack that's meant to be really good.

Will give it a test then update the original post with my thoughts.

Oh and by the way TSE has upgraded the 808 from V1 to V2. Apparently V2 takes out a lot of the digital fizz of the original.

Very nice. I'll give that a shot.

Also, Ive got a demo of RockRack going on right now. It's amazing! Probably the most realistic I've used. If it had more than just the 3 amps, it'd be the only one I use.

So how do I get them to work? I tried 2 of the free ones and they open to WinRAR and then they just open a window with random text in it.

I hope this isn't considered spam but I have just uploaded a bunch of tracks to my UG profile demonstrating various Amp Sims in a full mix including LePou, Nick Crow and Podfarm. I am gonna throw up some demos of a few different RedWirez cabinet sims I have purchased tonight as well. I hope this helps some of you guys I consider myself to be reasonably skilled in using amp sims

Look for metal amp sim - *insert amp name*

I don't suppose anyone knows of any very simple delay sims? Something that would allow me to delay by as little as 15ms would be nice. Free or very cheap is best.

What DAW do you have ? In Reaper there's an in built delay that it's not bad at all, other free delays worth looking into are the Interruptor bionic delay (there are all kind of free delays on their page http://www.interruptor.ch/vst_overview.shtml) and the Kjarheus classic delay.

I have Reaper. But the ReaDelay looks a little complex to me. Keep in mind, I want something that functions basically like a simple Delay pedal. (Something that's very similar to this pedal would be perfect.) I'm just trying to find something very basic to throw on my Guitar solos.

Hey Chem, now that HeadCase is officially released, wanna add it to the list?

Anyone wanna do a write up on it? I've not really tested Headcase that much but I'd be happy to add it to the list.

So, let me get this straight: Since an impulse response is how an amp responds to a unit step input, a cabinet simulator works (more or less) by taking the impulse response, scaling it to the input value, and playing it back, for each value at the input.
I'm amazed these cab sims don't take up any more CPU than they do. That means for a 50ms impulse response, they'd have to deal with over 2000 of them playing at once. Either that or I'm totally wrong.

Well, I would suppose a lot of how much CPU% the cab sims use depends on how complex or simple they are. Something like keFIR (which is VERY simple with like 3 knobs and an impulse loader) probably uses less CPU% than a complex cab sim with like 20 knobs and an impulse loader.

I mean, just as a Comp Sci student, I can say every one of those "knobs" probably has a very complex equation/calculation/command attached to it, so the more virtual knobs you have, the more you CPU has to run at the same time. Personally, I don't see the need for anything more advanced than keFIR until you really get into crafting higher end sound functionalities.

I'm just talking about the impulse loader itself. At any given moment, it has to deal with around 2000 voices at once (for a 50ms impulse response at 44100 samples/second), in real time, and it does. I just think that's impressive.

True. It is impressive. But that many calculations at once is fairly standard for most computers.

Nonetheless, a beefier computer is better.

Things that should probably be mentioned. Big things have been happening in TSE land:

- New Website (links updated accordingly)
- V2 of the B.O.D. is out including a 64 bit version
- V2 of the TS is out including a 64 bit version
- the X50 finally is out of beta and now can be downloaded as a 64 bit version
- the R47 distortion has been released in 32 and 64 bit, it models the famous RAT pedals.

I found a blog with a nice list of delay effects. Using Free Delay by Kiesel myself. I've not verified that all the links on the blog still work (it's about a year old), but it'd be good to add a few delay effects. I personally find the delay that comes with Reaper (ReaDelay) to be needlessly complex for someone like me, who's just starting out in recording and mixing.
#112
Delay effects don't really come under the heading of "guitar effects", might be an idea to do a a VST thread at some point.

Well, I suppose that's true. Although, several of those delays are specifically catered towards guitar. Free Delay, for instance, is a very simple one that might be useful to add under guitar effects. I suppose a VSTs thread would work too though.
