basically what the title says...does alcohol show you the person you really are?

i knew this guy who always had this confident swagger but whenever he'd get stone drunk he'd turn into a blubbering baby that thought everyone hated him

when you're drunk, you're baring your soul..whats really there, unfiltered
#4
I too have a friend who comes across as having his shit together, but when he gets drunk his whole persona falls apart.

It's probably true that drunk minds speak sober hearts and all that shit, I turn into a womanising **** when I'm drinking but normally can't talk to women very well.
#5
No

The part of your mind that alcohol slows down is as much a part of you as the part it reveals

I remember once getting drunk, remembering a daydream I once had, and confessing it to my friend as if it was something that really happened because I'd mistaken the memory of the daydream for a genuine memory

Why do people do this to polls.
Hugging Thread; I'm here to help

Oh you wouldn’t want an angel watching over
Surprise, surprise they wouldn’t wannna watch
Another uninnocent, elegant fall
Into the unmagnificent lives of adults

I wish I was drunk, so that your poll wouldn't bother me so much.

For some its a confidence boost, for others its a way of revealing themselves.

Fact is people know alcohol alters your behaviour so people use drinking as an excuse to act either like a dick, or to let things out. It's a depressant after all.

I admittadely act slightly more confident when I'm drunk but my personality doesn't change.

I'm pretty much the same person drunk, just louder

It really does bring out the real you. Watch people get drunk at a bar and display their unconscious instincts. Dancing to start the mating ceremony, competing males fighting for territory/mating rights, women staying in packs and keeping to themselves for protection, etc.

1. It depends on the definition of "real", because I can think of four or five different definitions, all of which would have different answers.
2. Your polls are eye cancer.

No, I'm not the type of person to go on a rampage, but I still do that when I'm drunk.

Alcohol depresses the prefrontal cortex - the part of the brain responsible for inhibiting other parts of the brain. As a result you have a loss of inhibition. In a way it shows who you really are as you can no longer suppress your animalistic tendencies, however some people feel that they are more than just animals living off of pure emotion. In the case of the later, they lose a big part of who they are by drinking.

I don't really know about the psychology of drinking or w/e, but that's how I sort of think of it. Like alcohol didn't turn Eric Clapton into a racist putz; he was already a racist putz, the alcohol probz just removed the inhibitions usually associated with expressing racist sentiments.
#21
Nope.

I just turn into a loud, obnoxious idiot who can suddenly become depressed and angry if something goes wrong.

No, it just shows the uninhibited, stupid, primal idiot in us all.

I've found myself saying things I didn't believe while drunk, because it evidently remioved the inhibitions that would normally make the think "I won't say that because it isn't true". I said them not because they were deep-rooted, secretly held beliefs, but because they were thoughts that popped into my head and left through my mouth without anything stopping them.

You could be right about Eric Clapton though as I have no idea what event you're referring to

I can't remember why I quoted you, since I then had to clarify that it didn't really have anything to do with what you said

Naw, it shows the 'inebriated' you.

I don't know if it shows who you really are, but it varies for everyone.

For me, I go from being quiet and not bothersome to loud and obnoxious (although people generally seem to enjoy it) and on rare occasion, will manifest my normally far too well controlled temper.

And on even rarer occasion, I'll get naked for absolutely no reason at all. That's right. I'm that guy.

You, good sir, have not gone over to your friends house after a hard night of drinking to find 2 dudes passed out in the same room both holding their own flaccid cocks in hand, passed out, with porn on the tv.

That's a sad world view, man...

OT: I think people just need to control themselves, drunk or not. I've made it a goal to never get falling down drunk on a regular basis.

Are you the same with your parents as with your bros? The same with strangers as with acquintances? The same with your girlfriend as with girls you don't like?
We are different for each situation, that doesn't mean we're faking it. What you are is a whole of all the behaviour patterns you have, not just drunk/sober.
Not sure if a sig is a necessity.
