Quite the news going on here, up in Canada.

The Liberals and NDP are both claiming their voter turnout was affected by the calls, which allegedly informed voters that their polling station had changed locations, when in fact it had not.

The RCMP and Elections Canada are looking into reports that automated calls were made in as many as 18 ridings. The opposition parties however now say as many as 34 ridings were affected.

NDP Interim Leader Nycole Turmel and Liberal Interim Leader Bob Rae are calling for a probe into the allegations.

Rae has asked for an emergency session in Parliament to address the issue, saying there is "no doubt" the calls contributed to the defeat of some of his party's candidates.

He also said the calls represent an attack on democracy.

"This debate is necessary because denying someone the opportunity to vote, is to deny them the most basic right that exists in our democracy," Rae said in a letter to House Speaker Andrew Scheer.

Definitely think this will be a huge issue. A democracy allows the people to vote. What the Conservatives did, essentially disallowed the people to vote, thus denying that right.

And of course they will deny it...

The Conservative Party of Canada has steadfastly denied any involvement in the scheme, with Prime Minister Stephen Harper saying last week he had "absolutely no knowledge" of the crank calls.

So whats your thoughts?

Do you think they did it? Why?

Don't think they did it? Why?

Discuss.

Only affects stupid, uninformed people, who shouldn't be voting anyway.

That the Conservative Party (who form up the majority of our government) would even do something as dishonest as this.

Not really.

They called voters, and told them to vote at a different station (which wasn't official and didn't count towards the actual vote) which is illegal.

People who wanted to vote NDP or Liberal, were deceived into voting for nothing.

Officials told them to do this. How does it make them stupid?

I don't know why, but I can see someone connecting this to Jack Layton's death. Something about the NDP winning if it were not for this.

It was a robo-call and they believed it without bothering to confirm.

People that stupid shouldn't vote anyway, nor should they procreate, but they do...

Though this is true, the false calls were made to ridings that were known to be mainly Liberal/NDP

But the conservatives already held goverment before the election. So a lack of a vote for the opposition may as well be a vote for them. Even if it isnt.

Not much is probably going to happy anyways since the conservatives are in power right now

Yes, yes I'm sure that was your reason.

You actually had a GREAT rebuttal to my point, but instead chose to engage in ad hominem attacks.

You and your sycophant's masterful exercise of debate technique is sure to be studied for years to come...
