So I recently acquired a crappy snare drum and after fixing the obvious issues and tuning both the top snare head and the bottom, I can't seem to get the snare beads set correctly.

I set the beads and tightened accordingly but when I lift the lever on the strainer , the lever doesn't stay up and the snare beads hang too loose. I've messed with the tension of the snare beads , but the strainer seems to not want to keep the lever up. Any tips on setting the beads correctly? or should I just buy a new strainer?

Thanks

Are you pulling it tight on the butt end? Place the snares evenly on the head then turn on the lever to tighten it, if it's still loose you might need to adjust it from the butt end, if it's STILL loose then you need a new strainer

Yeah. I pulled it tighter on the butt end, and flipped the switch. I play a little roll and the strainer level went down immediately. It can't seem to hold up the tension... Does anyone know where I could buy a decent new one for cheap?
