Petition

The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has drafted a very strong Animal Welfare Bill that will effectively combat cruelty towards animals. The bill has enhanced penalties to deter torture and inhumane treatement of animals.

However, this strong bill is at risk because vested interests are trying to bring in a watered down bill that will harm animal welfare rather than safeguard it.

Animal rights workers across the country are behind the strong bill as proposed by the AWBI.

We call on Jayanthi Natarajan, Minister of Environment and Forests to support the bill as proposed by the AWBI and ensure that there is no watering down of any of the clauses in this bill.

As Mahatama Gandhi said "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated"

Would the animals of India sign a petition to help protect my welfare?

I don't think so.

All things considered, I will not sign, mainly because the effort to ban something by petition in most countries is pointless at best, and counterproductive more often.

You realize this legislation effectively outlaws fishing using live bait, right?

I think I won't sign your petition.

No it doesn't. When it comes to using live bait, it qualifies that provision with "solely with a view to providing entertainment"

Then you're an idiot, since sportfishing contributes far more to conservation than does subsistence or commercial fishing.

And because you're an idiot, your legislation, which could be very good if done properly, will fail.

Live with that...

I don't see how.....unless it is related to gathering statistics and tracking fish populations for conservation purposes....which does not come under "Pure entertainment".

Of course you don't, because you are acting on emotion rather than doing your research...

Here's one relevant article but there are a myriad of others, all it takes is Google and desire.

*yawn

That line of thought just assumes all sport fishers care deeply about conservation. We have had enough bad experiences with killing of Tigers for sport.

In any case, nobody here cares about sportfishing.

Except you, you want to ban it, even though nobody cares about it? And to compare it to killing Tigers for sport shows you really don't have the foggiest clue what you're talking about.

Good luck with your failure, I'm sure that will accomplish a lot...

Have a nice day.

Yeah I'm sure that legislation will wipe all the fishes out and that the Wildlife Board too, doesn't "have the foggiest", the chairman of which was responsible for the creation of 14 national parks and 11 sanctuaries, who drafted the key Wildlife Protection Act, and served as India’s first Director of Wildlife Preservation.

Thanks, I'll have a nice day. Enjoy your sport fishing, that'll sure stop the trawlers destroying thousand year old ecosystems and wiping out marine life in the oceans.

To everyone who signed....thank you very much, I hope at least a few more people sign this petition.

I'd post the PETA porn but I'd get banned...........
