Are those portable 4 tracks any good? I planned on recording a few songs with rock band mics lol, so it'd be better than that im guessing?
Yes, if you get a good one. If you're talking about getting one of the old cassette based 4 tracks, don't bother.

There are lots of digital multitrackers out there which will do a great job of recording your songs - although I'd recommend getting at least an 8 track, preferably a 16 track as you'll quickly realise that you're running out of space.

What sort of budget do you have? It's also worth bearing in mind that there are usually loads of used multitrackers on sites like eBay that can be bought for bargain prices.
