What is the proper type of cable to connect a footswitch to an amp? I'm buying an Orange TH30C with the FS-1 footswitch and it doesn't appear to include the cable to connect it. Instrument cable appropriate? Does it matter? I don't even know the difference honestly.

Instrument cables are fine for such a task. I don't know exactly what configuration they use (ie mono or stereo cable) but a footswitch will work over anything as long as you get that right, it only has to carry enough current to drive a relay of some type.

That cable has absolutely zero effect on tone. Less than zero, really.

I have an orange with the orange foot switch and I use the cheapest crappiest cable I have for that purpose.

Nobody would ever send signal down to a footswitch and if they did they'd deserve to have their arse kicked. You run a small dc current to the switch to activate a relay of some type.

Most footswitches use a stereo cable. That said, I don't know exactly what kind it is, so a mono may work.
