Scale length?

I personally wouldn't like to go any thinner than a 66 for the low G, preferably a 70.

EDIT: A 68 should be fine at G with a 27" scale guitar. Stick 11-52 below that.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

I use an 85 on a 26.5" scale, plenty tight. It would be too tight if you wanted to bend more than a full step though lol I probably wouldn't go any lighter than a 70

Experiment with a few gauges ranging from a 66/68 or so upwards, it's hard to give a definitive answer as everyone has different subtleties with their picking technique. But those gauges are a good starting point.

But then again if you like the feel of a 59 gauge in A then something like a 62/64 should give you an equal feel to what you're used to.

any advice for me?

7 Strings, 25.5" scale, Drop G.

Gotta be tight and bright, yet with suitable bendiness to do.... bendy things....

cheers guys
