edit: I will not be considering desktops.

King Donkey is on to something. In fact, go for an all in one desktop. Although the only bad part about it is if you break the screen and you don't have backups then you're f**ked. Otherwise it's convienient, doesn't take up too much space, can connect wirelessly, has more usb ports than a laptop, and has a bit more space to work with (although tech advances so fast it'll be possible for laptops to have terrabytes of memory sooner than we think). PC all in ones start out at prices that won't break your bank. I use one and I love it a hell of a lot better than my laptop.

You should consider desktops

If you were gonna spend $1500 on a desktop, and you wanted a laptop of equal quality, you'd probably have to spend like 3grand.

Even then, if i had to choose between a 1.5grand desktop or a 3grand laptop, i'd choose the desktop.

Go for a desktop definately. If you know anything about building a PC then either start from scratch or buy a barebones system and buiild it up you can make a much more powerful computer that than if you buy an already built one with all your money. But, if you do want a latop specifically and cannot abide desktops then you would be looking at a Dell Alienware laptop which are built for gaming but are rediculously expensive starting at around 2000(USD) for their entry level machine (with a 17" monitor)

Look, I have a laptop now, I want a laptop again. I need to take it places. I know and don't care about the value advantage that a desktop will give me. Please just suggest laptops.

This. I tell this to people all the time.

BUT if you insist. First, what games do you want to play on it?

I know these are out of your price range, but I have to link them because I love tech porn. THESE laptops I can respect!

I want to play Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, The Witcher, and Dragon Age: Origins all on high settings with relative ease.

Alright, thats manageable! There are a lot of laptops that would suffice. I suggest starting here:

When youre lookin on that website, the 570m will be fine. Dont bother spending the extra $400 on the 580m. Even the 560m would get you through just fine, tbh. Also no more than 8gb of ram. If you wanna save a little, 4gb will work most the time unless you multi task like crazy when you play your games. And finally, as long as its a quad core i7 cpu, youll be just fine as well.

Just my opinion! Sorry I didnt link you an alienware or something. I just prefer these more. Spending less and getting more.

Yea the alienware is like, not in contention in my book. I know they are very pricey and that there are lots of brands that offer a perfectly comparable machine for much less.

The desktop I could build with $1500...

You want one of these

Or an Asus G series. If you want a laptop then get a laptop. If it's primarily for gaming then a desktop and a netbook would be a better idea but otherwise there's nothing wrong with a laptop.

This would do too, if you like it! That 580m is a seriously powerful gpu. You could play a lot more than the games you listed with that! You COULD save a decent $400 goin with the 570m though and do plenty ..but it all depends on what youre looking for.

His pick has usb 3.0 feature, if youre into that.

You're gonna hate me, but a desktop for gaming, and a netbook for mobile computing. You can even get a netbook that games, though nothing new.
