I have been wanting to upgrade from my Marshall MGDFX250 and I ran across a Marshall AVTX100 today for $599. I'm confined to about that price range. I play classic rock like Hemdrix and Led Zeppelin, and old school metal like Iron Maiden and Megadeth. Would this be a good upgrade or should I wait and find something else?

Find something else. The AVT is a step up from the MG but for 600 you can do a lot better.
Can you post budget and musical styles and perhaps nearest city? Lots of people on here are good about tracking down great used deals.

I live around Knoxville TN. Some of the stuff I play is:
Hendrix
Slayer
Led Zeppelin
Megadeth
Iron Maiden
Led Zeppelin
Uriah Heep
Cream
Etc.

My budget is give or take $600.

find something else

Knoxville you say?

I'd be going after that Crate Flexwave, Orange Dual Terror, Bugera 333xl, Crate Blue Voodoo, Marshall DSL.

All better than the AVT. Does the $600 include selling your MG.

PS: You can get a Vypyr 60 that will do everything you want from $250 - $450 new.

Seriously, http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/jet-city-amplification-jca5012c-50w-1x12-tube-guitar-combo-amp

The AVT is a step up from the MG but is not a great upgrade in the slightest.

This might do:

Crate Blue Voodoo. Dunno how good the cab is though:

Otherwise there are some Peavey Classics on there, that would be nice (would need a boost for the heavy stuff though):

This would also do the trick, but the seller's asking too much:

Maybe haggle a bit?

Couldn't find anything else that'd be interesting.

EDIT: The JCA mentioned above would do nicely.

Yeah it is lol. I was in the store looking at it so I'm glad there were lots. I was hoping they would have a DSL but they didn't, so I was wondering how the AVTX100 compared. I'll just keep waiting I suppose or see if there is any way the guy on Craigslist would let me play his. I apologize for all the threads I've been making about Amps, but thanks anyways everyone

Peavey Windsor combo, or buy the head and either find a good used cab, or save up a bit more for one. Both the combo and the head are $400 brand new.

Comparing an AVT to a DSL is like comparing a commie era Skoda to a Porsche 911 turbo.

The only real answer to the SG vs Les Paul debate is to get a Flying V and laugh at all the suckers who don't have one.
