Ok so i recently just changed my picking method to this and have gotten really good results:

however latley there been a bit of pain in my index finger holdign the pick, part of it in the skin underneath or near the nail and then sometimes bit of pain in the side of my index finger touching the pick close to the nail, the pain isn't reall that bad at all but and it isn't always there but i was wondering if it had anything to do with me holding the pick like i do in the above pics, i do have nail biting habits too so that might have something to with it lol

how tightly are you holding the pick?

depends how fast i'm trying to play, which may be part of the problem, like i said it doesn't always hurt either

make sure your not holding the pick too tightly, it should be just tight enough to not fall out of your hand while playing any tighter than that and youre putting too much effort and possibly hurting your mucles and tendons.

yeah it kind differs depending on what i'm playing somtimes i hold it closer to the pad and then other times i'm sliding my index finger back. the first way i hold it is actually the method i have the better picking with using more of the pad of the index, but as i said it only hurts the sideo of my finger by the nail somtimes, maybe it will go away after a bit? kind feels like nail is digging into skin
