fuzz factory with the comp around 3 o'clock was my first thought - it'll be too bright for that though. if you run a clean boost after it, though, it'll mellow it out. or even an EQ to cut some treble and add a bit of bottom-end.

For the record, I just Googled his rig for my response and apparently those two pedals are what he's using. I'm sure it's possible with other stuff, though.

Maybe a ZVex Woolly Mammoth? perhaps with a quick mod to the i/o capacitors...
