$1000 and you're thinking about a Frontman? You can get a decent tube amp for that kind of money, even in Aus. Something Marshall-y would be best for you based on the bands you mention. Maybe a used JCM800?

You can buy Peavey Classic 30's new for $689 here.

That's the advantage of being such a distance from Yianni. I can continue to live my life without fear of stumbling upon his dark terror.

JCM800's here aren't anywhere near $1000, even used.

if you were looking at a Frontman because you are interested in Fenders then you can get a twin reverb for that kinda money, you should go that route. But based on the bands you mentioned I don't think Fender is the way you should go, surf the used market for marshalls or even orange amps and you'll find a closer sound

Marshall and Orange have a crap and over priced used market here!

Peavey Classic 30.

Done.

I wish more people were aware of/sensitive to the Australian Market. It's always frustrating to see stuff recommended that is 2-3x the budget given.

Anyway, the Classic 30 is a good suggestion. Get a pedal for Metallica (Hardwire TL-2?). You'll also probably want some kind of Tubescreamer.
