I did this yesterday and I really think this might actually be the best cover I've ever done.

I kind ran wild with the solos, too. Extra harmonies and improvisations that might not exactly fit with the song, but were too damned fun to skip. lol

Also, because I don't have any strings for my bass at the moment, I had to use a VSTi. It's not really the best, but it works well enough.

love the tone choices! they have a nice heavy sound but at the same time not being to much.
the solos were very good also, very close to the originals. excellent song choice too! the improvised solo didn't seem out of place either. really nice nice cover mate.

long live metallica!

if you get the time i would really appreciate your opinion on my cover

Whoa, I wish I was as good as you, just waking up one day and wanting to cover orion :P

It is a GREAT cover !
The solos were perfect (playing wise), also good job figuring them out.
I love the improvisation solo too ; can't say that it isn't better than the original.

Kudos!

And no, you don't need to C4C

This is a great cover! I always wanted to cover this song but never got around to it. The bass sounds a little weird by itself but with your guitars it sounds great! With real bass it'll be even more badass. The tone is kinda sludgy at parts, but I like it like that actually. It separates from the original a bit which is nice. Metallica rules and so does your cover!

Here's my new cover if you wanna C4C? https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?p=29301885#post29301885

Wow great job. The only thing I didn't like very much was the lead guitar tone.

I totally agree with you that the tone is off. I'm still trying to work on it. I don't use any VST's like a lot of people tell me to, I try to do everything manually with only EQ and compression/limiters on the final tracks. Everything else is done with my pedal, delay, reverb, chorus and such.
