A few days ago I had some strange jaw pain and honestly said I'm no fan of doctors. They take too long and in the country I live in they cost quite much even for a simple check-up.

Therefore I took my time to browse google until I found something similar to my problem. I found the right thing and now the pain is all gone. No more doctor

This makes me wonder, do any of you browse google before you visit a doctor?

Yes I actually do use google before going to a doctor, a lot of times it helps me know what to say to them. Like if it's a side effect of meds I'm on or something.

I always do my own research before I do anything.

I wouldn't go out and try some random drug without asking someone I know personally, though.

I know the feeling. I always have to Google before I decide if I want to side with the Krogan or Salarian.

It happened becasue I was snowboard and I fell and somehow hit my knee into my jaw and the muscles at the jaw area were pulled. It hurt when I was talking but this sight said I should chew gum to "restrengthen" the loose muscles.

If this was the reason I recovered or not I don't know but it's no longer there

My sister is seriously ill and in the 7 years she's been 'treated', she's learned more about her illness from google/the internet than from over a dozen specialist professors.

Google for preliminary diagnosis/supplemental research, doctor for any treatment/prescription that falls outside my abilities

EDIT: This doesn't constitute advice, it's simply what I do. If you do the same, make damn sure you fully understand what you're reading and if in doubt, see a pro.

Don't try and google it. You will unnecessarily scare yourself that you have something extremely serious when it isn't.

I google everything because I like reading about horrible diseases. Its got nothing to do with whether I think I have something. I don't really have a reason not to go to the doctor anyway, unless im feeling lazy, because consultations are free and the most I've paid for a regular prescription is $15.

Google is a bit of a mixed bag with medical things. When my mum heard she had cancer she looked it up all on google and it just scared the shit outta her, made her think she was gonna be dead in a year etc. Which was wholly inaccurate, and she's since seen a few specialists, had an operation and is looking in the clear. It can be useful if you know what you're looking for, e.g. medications or you know fairly well what your condition is. Just typing in symptoms to google can be pretty risky and shouldn't be a substitute for actual medical advice, no matter how inconvenient or expensive.

Pretty much this. On Christmas Eve when I was in the hospital, had I not told them that I've read that my medication they had put me on, reacts with the blood thinners I was on at the time and can cause pancreatitis, they would have never considered it. Turned out, I had a rare reaction (Happened literally the day I took it) that resulted in pancreatitis that was apparently life threatening.

So yeah, I think it helps a lot in the communication between the patient and doctor, and even a lot of the time you can solve it yourself just by using Google. A lot of doctors are in it for money, if you have one who ultimately cares, it can really benefit your health.
