You registered today to tell us your homeless? This is what makes a person stop lurking?

All they do is take.

If you're on a computer at the library, LOOK UP A HOMELESS SHELTER.

Goddamn socialists. Always looking for a handout. YOU'RE WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY!!!

Serious answer? If you're homeless and the first thing you thought to to do was come to UG to sign up and post a thread in the pit to ask what you should do, you're going to die on the street.
Do you feel warm within your cage?

Get a job; look up a homeless shelter; asks friends and family if you can live at theirs whilst you get on your feet; get the **** off of UG with your attention whoring: you have many options, TS.

Become a wi-fi hotspot.

Really though, try couchsurfing, homeless shelters, picking up women at sleazy bars and staying at their places, etc.

Non-valid comment. I know plenty of people with degrees that are bagging groceries and hanging up Nordic Trac sprinters at Sears, not to mention the ones who are 'on extended hiatus.'

Suggesting higher schooling unconditionally leads to success is passe and not relevant anymore in the current social and economic climate.

i never said anything about college. im just talking about finishing high school.

a GED isnt worth a damn these days, and its one of the only things you can get education wise if you drop out of high school.

the issue is when people drop out of high school, most of what ive seen is kids just trying to rebel against their parents and stick it to the man cos they have all the answers.

not saying college will guarantee you a job either, cos ive also seen quite a few people with degrees flipping burgers. a GED is more of a roadblock than people think.

BTDT

The good thing is it's spring and getting warmer by the day, so if you have to, you can sleep outside anywhere there is shelter.

Your first step in surviving is realize that in a survival situation there is no such thing as shame. Whatever it takes to through to tomarrow is acceptble.

If you are young enough you can consider Job Corps.

Or if you are old enough consider going to a military recruiter.

You forget the part where TS is completely un-employed.

A college graduate has a wealth of more oppurtunities than a college drop out. Please go do some reading and research. Anecdotal evidence holds no ground.

Best answer! I don't need to give the guy the third degree with the rest of you, I was homeless for a few months in the past myself. I had a UG account long before I was homeless though! :P

I would suggest you move south to Mexico or some place warmer. Being homeless in the frozen north sucks. Much better to be homeless in a tropical place.

Exactly, go to Texas and become a mobile wi-fi hotspot. And while you're at it you could also find a job at Amway and be able to retire in a couple of years!

1. Look for jobs. Rule nothing out - you're homeless, beggars can't be choosers. If it pays, it's better than now is for you.
2. Apply for jobs. Again, rule nothing out.
3. Find a place to stay. Be it a homeless shelter, a friend's living room, whatever it takes. You don't get to have pride and pick and choose, you're homeless. Again, beggars can't be choosers.
4. Use as little of the resources wherever you stay as possible. Friends are about all you have. If you leave him $2.50 for rent, that's going to strengthen that relationship, maybe make him willing to let you stay there for free for a few nights. Raiding his fridge will make him kick your ass onto the street.
5. Get used to the cheap life. Microwaved food, water and no other drinks, you can't afford nice food, you just need to survive until you get a decent job.

Try and go to at least a community college once you have some stability in a job and at least an apartment - fact is most people have a college degree nowadays, and more than that have high school diplomas. It's not personal, it's just life, I don't care if it's a job taking orders at McDonalds. If I have two 20-somethings with similar personalities, similar qualifications, similar references, but one has a GED and the other has a PhD in astrophysics from MIT, guess who I'm hiring? It's not going to carry the weight of a four-year school, but at least it'll say "Even though I have a GED, I'm still smart, it wasn't for lack of intelligence that I left", rather than "I wasn't smart enough to finish high school", which, like it or not, is what your GED will broadcast to employers if you have no further education.

Whatever you do don't try and sleep under a bridge, it seems very lucrative because it keeps you dry but its loud as hell when cars drive over you, also newspaper makes a really awesome insulator just crumple a bunch up and shove it down your pants and stuff your jacket with it. And never underestimate a garbage can, there is always something to eat in a garbage can.

We've developed so much knowledge now that dropping out of high school is pretty lols at this point because you'll fail to learn the essentials and will thusly develop a worldview comprising a mix of prehistoric, 17th century, and 21st century elements.
