So my pc chashed a while ago, and they changed the hard drive, so all my files was lost. Luckily, i did take a back up to an external hard drive. Now i got my pc back. How do i recover my pc from the backup on my external hard drive? I have windows vista.
Plug in external hard drive and copy it back over...? Not much else to it surely

^What he said. If you used some sort of software to back it up and that software does something more than just pick things up and put them down somewhere else, you might need to use that software to get it back.
If it made a backup image, use the same software you used to backup to restore the files.
Unless you used software specifically designed to backup and restore the entire system, you don't.

And quite frankly restoring Vista is like asking to be re-infected with crabs....
