I am looking at a defretted ESP Horizon bass on my local craiglist and I'm wondering if they're any good? Apparently these were made in Japan in the early 90's or so and are equipped with ESP pickups. Anyone got any info on the quality of the bass and pickups?

ESP started out as an aftermarket pickup and other hardware replacement company, I dare say if they're earlier they might be quite nice. While ESP basses really aren't my thing I can't fault the build quality in the high end (non-LTD) models and they're quite nice basses overall (if not a bit overpriced sometimes imo).
If it's worth it is a question of how much the seller is asking and how much you like it. Personally I can't see it going for more than $500-600ish.

EDIT: Going by this the bass in that picture would be a '91 model. If that helps you any.
Basses:
Fender Precision Bass
Fender Jazz Bass
1967 Fender Coronado Bass II
Warwick Star Bass
Squier Precision Bass TB

It's going for less than that. And FWIW, the only place I can still find one to buy new priced it at ~1500$.

I guess I'll go try it out

New? From what I see they stopped making them in '95...
