Im looking to replace pots (500K) on my RG playing mostly eighties rock on this guitar. Im looking at a capacitor (Orange drop .022 400v) Any suggestions?

.022uf is pretty much the standard. I tend to think that a .022uf cap is a .022uf cap. The type doesn't matter unless you have a really good ear. Just go to your local Radio Shack and pick one up.

This is a nice summation.

I swapped my cap for a sprague orange drop, the difference is really subtle. So sure, go for it as a cheap mod you can do yourself, but don't expect a big difference.

You often see those russian military caps going for silly cheap prices on ebay too. I scored 100 PETP 0.022uF ones for $10. Twenty 0.01uF PIO's for $6. Got them from somebody in Russia. I think they keep finding warehouses full of old caps that never got through the commie bureaucracy and out to the job.

I ordered a few PIO caps. I'll record some before and after when I get them installed.

Eh, just avoid ceramics and you'll be fine. Capacitor technology has improved a ton since the 60s and 70s and any type of cheap modern film cap will be fine. If you're doing 80s rock you probably don't even need a tone control as then thing is set to 10 all the time!
