Alright, not the best picture, I know...but anyway. The smaller dot is Venus. From where I am, it's shimmering with a blue-like tinge:

It looks really pretty.

It looks really nice, a lot brighter than I thought it would be.

I had to spend about ten minutes looking for the moon though. There was a house in front of it

So I'm the only one whose noticed the porn in the people are awesome thread?

I saw it. No need to report it more than once though, just spams the mods' inboxes.

I saw it on the way home from practice, I'll see if I can get a decent picture.

Edit: The bolded is about the moon and Venus, not porn >_>

Actually, the brighter one is Jupiter and the other bright (but not as bright as the main one) is Venus.

(According to my budding astronomer of a dad!)

Any money the police are suffering from increased UFO reports tonight - tends to happen when planets decide to show up a little brighter in the sky.

Just so y'all know there's going to be a Transit of Venus in early June this year. The transit of Venus is when Venus crosses between the sun and the Earth along the ecliptic plane, essentially it will look like it's casting a small eclipse on the surface of the sun.

This won't happen again for 100 years or so.

Wikipedia knows everything. I'm pretty sure it's sentient too.

Let's just hope like hell it hates google, or we're really ****ed.
It'll be like SkyNet, only a SkyNet that actually does know everything.

Quick, start editing the wikipedia entry on 'humans' to make it seem like we can explode robots with our minds or some shit.

I'm pretty sure that it is venus. venus is closer and reflects more light, so it is brighter.

if you are in uk it is at about 4am. you will need to build a pinhole camera with some binoculars and project it on your wall. DONT LOOK AT THE SUN THROUGH A TELESCOPE

But I want to burn out my retina. It'll be fun.
Seriously, though it'll probably be cloudy, so it won't matter a good God damn.

No, but I was participating in a 'how long until google becomes self aware' discussion on another forum last week.

No, the brighter one is Venus. Venus is the brightest thing in the night sky, when you can see it. The dimmer one is Jupiter.

A few weeks ago you could see Mars, Jupiter, and Venus in the sky at the same time by me. It was cool.

Same here. Granted we're relatively close in the scheme of such things. It was awesome.
#37
I saw that earlier. It didn't look blue or anything, just like a bright star next to a crescent. Quite cool, even wrote about it.
#38
Wow, this is actually pretty cool, I'll try to check this out tonight !

It is worth mentioning that now, on the East Coast of the US, Venus is visible to the naked eye right near the moon. Jupiter is also right near Venus and the Moon, but isn't visible with the naked eye because the moon is too bright. You might be able to see it with a telescope.

And, on the opposite side of the sky, you can see Mars. It will be the vaguely orange light.

Midwest US and I can see it now (I think that's it). Looks awesome with the crescent moon (whatever it is).
In my heart I'm with you
