Okay, so I had an idea. As you all know you can wire a 4-conductor humbucker and make it coil split-able. I was thinking, though, what would happen if you just took out the pole pieces of one side of the humbucker, effectively making it like a split coil humbucker? Would it actually affect the sound, since the coils are no longer picking up string vibration? Just a thought, but any help would be welcomed.

I don't know if I'd call this an 'easy' coil split... it's really a more complicated and probably less effective way of doing it

but still, I'm interested to see what happens, so go for it!

Well I meant that it is easier than rewiring the entire guitar (especially when it is an es-335 without a control plate).
