i was looking into buying a peavy windsor tube head plus an avatar cab for $500. Retail-wise, the head would go for $400 and the cab would be $600. im not a pro, so im not playing with hot shots, and im not getting paid for playing shows nor am i paying to play. im 19 and i play because i like to. anyways, my current amp is a decent randall combo solid state and it gets the job done. however, the reason i want to upgrade lies in the fact that i want a different sound, and i want something thats pretty versatile. ill be starting side projects soon..and thats pretty much it. i know i wont be getting any income out of it, but $500 for a $1000 rig seems like a sweet deal to me. what do you guys think?

EDIT: i play scummy garage rock influenced by black flag, ghoul, qotsa, government warning...just to name a few

The Windsor is a decent amp but I wouldn't call it that versatile really. Depends on what you call versatile. A bit more detail regarding the styles of music you want to cover would be helpful.

The Windsor will suit you perfectly. Put good tubes in it. You need spares anyway. Buy some good ones and keep the original ones as spares. JJ all the way in something as Marshally as that, well unless you go NOS - then it's British Mullards or gtfo.

And try to find a used Marshall 1960 to go under it. None of this V30 bs, just a normal 1960A or 1960B.
