When you buy a macbook pro for the apple store does it come installed with the OS?

I am getting a macbook pro and was wondering if when you go to the apple store, you can actually leave there with the laptop ready or do they have to get one ready and stuff like best buy. I bought my last laptop from bestbuy and it took them 2 days to get it ready so, i am just curious.

They normally ship with the latest version unless they've made big changes e.g. snow leopard to lion.

that too. people who buy macs are either hipsters, porn addicts, or buy whatever the **** the media tells them too.

i have a mac and i don't even like it. takes like 3 minutes to start up, opening photoshop or lightroom takes like 2 minutes, and functionality is horrible.

Honestly, for the money you're spending on the macbook, you could get a PC with Windows 7 which is superior in every single way. It's the logical choice

Yeah too bad I'm none of those things
Well, maybe a porn addict.

Bottom line is so many Windows or Linux users are so quick to say "MAC USERS ARE PRETENTIOUS! THEY ARE HIPSTERS!" yet isn't it just so cute how hypocritical that is?

Just saying. Have nothing against any other operating system, so why do guys like to get an erection over bashing something else? Because you don't like it? Ooo. Do you complain about the taste of music of others as well?

Enjoy being satisfied with ripping on everything else. I've had a Mac for 5/6 years, and I've never had to have it repaired, it's the exact same speed as it has been since day 1, and I have had no complaints with it. Does this mean it's better than Windows or Linux? God no.

People like you need to grow the fuck up. I wouldn't care if you were saying this about Windows and how good Macs are (want to call my bluff? Try me). I'd still think you were a douchebag if you did that. Nobody cares about your hardened dick but yourself at the end of the day.

He asked if he could leave the Mac store with a Mac. Not if Mac was superior to PC. And to answer the question, yes, unless of course you want them to tweak it a bit or add software. Then you might have to wait.

Well i was not really asking advice on what computer to buy, i know my stuff, I do infact own a multiple pc's and this is my first Mac. But lets face it everyone knows macs are better for recording which is the reason i am buying it. I am also a gamer but i would not be caught dead playing (insert random mmo i play) on this mac, i have a really nice sony vaios that i am going to use for college and i use for gaming and such but it constantly is having problems with Pro-tools and other plugins i use not to mention recognizing my recording gear properly.

My sister has an Apple Mac Desktop. I never used it too frequently - once every month probably - so I didn't really get used to it. Then, I hated the interface, how it functions and how every single god-damn window doesn't fully maximise (a bit of a pet peeve - I hate it the Mac Windows where the edges are curved so you can see what's behind it - only strange thing of mine >_<.
Anyway, I thought I just needed to get used to it. Wrong. After working at an office who used Apple Macs exclusively, I learnt that I really hate them. I have no idea why people buy those piles of crap, I really don't. They are so inefficient. Doing the same thing on a Windows Computer takes half the time in terms of functionability.

EDIT: Sorry to digress, this thread is really about your main post. Anyway, I assume all Macs will have the OS pre-installed. It's the same with Windows, unless you're buying it refurbished in some way or second-hand.

I'm fairly certain the OS is already installed on the computer right out of the box.

And all you anti-Mac people need to stfu. What's wrong with liking an OS that you find more aesthetically pleasing? Not everyone is a programmer, gamer, or wants to mod the **** out of their machine. And I have yet to see a PC with a multitouch touchpad as good as my macbook. Yes, they have multitouch, but all the ones I've used were terrible thus far.

I highly recommend getting the Macbook Pro.

I've had mine for almost two years and have not had one problem with it.

Tech elitism is as stupid as tech brand loyalty, which is ridiculously stupid, from both the OS X camp and the Windows camp. I'm lucky enough to have the opportunity to use both on a daily basis, and neither is inherently better - both operating systems have facets that suck beyond belief, and facets that are absolutely wonderful. A lot of you guys aren't any better than the asshats you're bitching about.

Anyway, of course it's going to be on there - I've never seen a computer being sold in a modern retail store without one pre-installed.

I'm on a HP laptop now.
This doesn't surprise me.

Also, I've used Windows my entire life but I'm getting a Mac for Uni, and dual running Windows on it. It's a far easier interface for media related shit, and Windows is better for nearly everything else.

i had a g3 wallstreet 2

I have a Toshiba too. I must be part of the 15.7%.

I'm going to be totally honest, I've used Windows all my life, but after using one of my school's iMacs to make a video, I'm totally sold on them. Everything flows so smoothly between programs, and the interface on everything is very intuitive and user friendly.

Definitely getting a macbook pro for college. Every Windows computer I've had has given me trouble in one way or another.

An almost similarly specced Macbook pro (I don't think a 6990m can even fit into a macbook) costs £700 more than my custom Clevo. lol.

OT: I'm sure the computer will be fine from the store, and if not, there's probably an idiot-proof installation process that won't take more than an hour or so.
O.K.

Exactly why I ditched HP. Their laptops are awful in my experience.

I love my Toshiba. Almost 2 years, and not one problem. It still runs as smoothly as the day I bought it. I probably could go for a new battery, but that's pretty normal after that amount of time.

I have nothing against Macs. I've used them a fair bit over the years (mostly in school) and they're clearly good machines. I don't prefer them over PCs though. Windows is a better OS I think.

I don't see why it wouldn't be ready to go when you buy it. Every time I've bought a laptop it came ready to go. I didn't have to wait for anything. Granted I've always bought ones with Windows. I'm not sure why it would be different with Apple.

There really isn't much difference between using OSX and Windows. Like seriously. It's all the same basic stuff.

Disclaimer: I have a Macbook and also built my own PC.

No laptop should ever come not ready to go. Best Buy is stupid. The only computer you're ever going to get not ready to go is a custom build.

The only reason I can see a laptop not being ready to go is if the retailer offers a range of operating systems.

As said, you should be able to walk out with one, depending on stock levels obviously.
