My main focus when I listen to music usually isn't on melody or rhythm, but rather harmony and chord progressions. I like unique chord progressions. This is my most important factor in terms of what I like.

So name songs with very interesting and unique chord progressions that you like. I'll start.

"Let's Stay Together" - Al Green (Especially the part that says "'Cus youuuu make me feel so brand new." Chords are Am7 Gm7 Fmaj7 Em D9 I think).

"Ti Bom" - Plaid (Can somebody please help me figure out this progression? I'm having trouble. I think it's Dm, Dm9, Bø7, C. I can't tell for sure though).

"Papuchia Village" - Legend Of Zelda

Obviously any Green Day song ever.

You all know it's true. They are just masters of songwriting.

Think you could use your aural skills to figure out the second track I posted?

I would really like to be able to focus on chords on harmony now, but every lesson I've found on theory for the last like 3 years of my playing seems to be either stuff I already know, or stuff that's way above my level of understanding.

I like this one in rhythmic spurts:

The Ramona song from Scott Pilgrim.

G, Bm, E (x2), Am, C, Eb (x2), Bb (x2), Dm (x2), G, Gsus4, G, G6.

I love progressions that change key mid-cycle.

I love the bridge section of Offspring's Self Esteem.

Come to think of it, they do write a lot of awesome chord progressions, especially on their earlier stuff.

Also, every hair metal power ballad - Gmaj, Cadd9, Dmaj.

This is terrible advice. Even worse than the useless dry, sarcastic comment I made.

Csus4 - G# - Fsus4 - Cm

I wrote it a bit ago, but I'm not 100% on the chords

EDIT: On another note, anyone know what cadence that would be?

I love the 'Close to the Edge' chord progression by Yes.

Basically, Am, G, Am, Bm, C, Bm, C, D.

Never heard anything like it.
Plus, the chord progression for 'You' by Radiohead. I can't remember it, but it's definitely a good'n.

For some reason I really like the progression to "Beer" by Reel Big Fish.
Am F C G
It's simple but it just sounds so cool.
