I liked The White Stripes and The Black Keys for the rock style blues or blues style rock... Obviously they are in the louder camp I guess.
So I am listening to Pandora and have it on The Black Keys station and found out about The Sheepdogs but even more so.... Tinsley Ellis. Specifically "Time to Quit".

I respect Clapton, admire Buddy Guy's guitar skills, and SRV voice, and "the old timers like Son House, Muddy Waters, Leadbelly" are awesome but Tinsley is pretty much EXACTLY what I picture blues to be in my mind's eye. Of course it is subjective and my taste/opinion, but I have never been blown away so much by one song. Literally my jaw dropped.

Unbelievable. I love it.

To think, I had zero interest in blues until I picked up a guitar. It is an amazing genre.
