So it has come to my attention during the past couple of years, that when a video game has too much blood, drugs and too many boobs, certain countries decide to put censorship on it even though the game is already rated 18+.

I don't know about you, but this ticks me off. What rating should a game have, to include all these things in it? Rating: X?

Seriously, blood, drugs and sex is part of our lives. We see blood in movies, in some games, and in our everyday life if we manage to injure ourselves or witness someone get hurt.. So where is the problem? Everyday in the news we can hear about drugs being sold and people getting cracked down on. We also hear about alcoholics going through rehab or dying in a car crash.. Sex also plays a huge role today, it's in almost every damn rap song and in every soap commercial...

A video game is a form of art, one can see that it's drawn so why not just leave all these things in it the way it's meant to be?

Wouldn't it be cool if game producers could just make a game without limits?

This might sound bizarre, but in neither of the games I've played, where you can shoot arrows at people or run them over with cars, is there a child... And if there just happens to be one, bullets, cars and arrows just go through them as if they're ghosts..

I'm not saying we should go make games where you can go around killing children, but what is the difference if you kill a woman in the game or a child. Both of them are just computer generated characters...

If such violence in video games, really does provoke aggression in a human being, then one shouldn't even be allowed to kill anything in a game. I don't know if you understand what I'm trying to say, but I'll just hope you do.

Do these censorship annoy you too?
Or do you agree that such things should be censored?
Do share your opinion...

Most violent games don't include children because of the potential public outcry, not the rating. It only seems to be Australia that bans games, but they've just got an 18+ rating (they didn't have one before), so there shouldn't be too much banning any more.

I just found a funny list on Wiki.

Here are some banned games and reasons as to why they are banned. I haven't read them yet, but already the first 3 are because of violence...

Should play the Postal series then. No limits in those games.

Far as killing children goes, there's Bioshock! Get to kill little girls if you're evil enough.

With games like Dead Space out, you really shouldn't bother asking this question. The only way they could push the violence any further would be if you could rape the necromorphs after shooting their arms off.

Sure, I mean I'm pissed that we can't have an uber-realistic child rape game. You know, where it's effectively no different from grooming a child online. Complete with detailed sex scenes man, then I want the option to either kill the kid and keep a part of him for myself, or torture him and shit. You know.

Well there's always the risk of irresponsible (I could mean "non-protective" by this) parents buying these "rated X" games for their kids. You and I may be able to see that the game is not reflective of reality, but younger kids have much more difficulty understanding that. Children of responsible parents most likely go play these games at their friends' houses.

I guess what I'm getting at is that kids will get their hands on games full of sex, drugs, and gore. When protective parents realize this, they get upset and start a public fuss.

They can cry, bleed and scream and then you can use the "beat into submission" button until they can do no more than whimper. However, if you beat them too hard, they'll die and you'll lose your hardon. Then you have to drive back to the kinder care.

Gore in video games is rubbish.
Combine half an imagination and the critical hit table from just about and PnP RPG, and you've got much more detailed violence.

I understand what you mean, but just like that a kid can also browse the internet and find videos of decapitations in Iraq and other places around the world and just like that they can even visit a porn site. So no child is protected enough to counter this and if they were to be, then that would lead to more serious problems.

Anybody who thinks that video games have too much sex, drugs, violence, etc really should watch some television.

What? You didn't spec in necrophilia? Why the hell not?

My view is if they can show it in movies, then why not games. In FO3 Med-X was called Morphine until they had to change it to get it released, but on TV I see people doing drugs all the time (heroin, coke) it's bs.

A game with "nude" digitally modelled characters or a game with images of actual nude humans? 'Cause GTA 4 tLaD and RD:R both have some of the former.

I'm just trying to point out, that there really is no difference what so ever in killing a grown up CGC or a child CGC. They're not real things. Therefore, if they already make a game which tries to imitate a world today, not putting children in it pretty much destroys the reality of it.

Not to mention in GTA IV where the f*** are the dogs?

100 frag mines, 100 pulse mines and 30 plasma mines being set off with a mini-nuke can't kill a child. Everyone knows that if you set that sort of thing up in primary school only teachers would die.

I'm not really sure how making it more extreme would somehow make Mass Effect 3 more entertaining. Doing something about that ending on the other hand...

Same goes for most games. There's a difference between artistic value and shock value. Artistic is, well, art. Shock is just showing you something you weren't expecting and that clashes with your sensibilities in order to get a cheap rise, and it's often what the more extreme end of the blood/gore/sex stuff is used for. Not always, there are examples of it being used artistically, but more often than not it's used for shock value, which cheapens the feel of the game, and goes completely counter to the case that games are art.

You know what I mean.. They're both drawings..

The children might scream or moan at a higher pitch when shot. That is maybe a big difference

But, this is getting off topic. I'm not wanting a game that is titled "Child Massacre" or something. I just don't understand what is the difference, if in a game you already begin to kill someone/something...
